IPE 400: Ethics in an Interprofessional Approach

The main purpose of the IPE core 3 session is to introduce the multidisciplinary vision of ethics, as most students in their respective programs have already had ethics. The session will highlight the difficulty as well as the value of ethical decision making in difficult clinical circumstances by using an interprofessional lens.

Student Learning Outcomes

1.Incorporate concepts from IPE200 and IPE300 as part of intra- and interprofessional education (IPE)
and collaborative care/practice (IPCC/P)
2. Identify ethics principles and theories that guide good clinical decision making.
3. Distinguish an ethical dilemma from other types of ethical concerns that arise in the clinical setting.
4. Explain factors that influence ethical decision making in the clinical setting.
5. Collaborate with other members of the interprofessional team to address ethical issues.
6. Discuss psychological safety and its value in IPE and IPCC/P.
7. Apply concepts from gender literacy to understand how intersecting social inequalities impact ethics.
8. Apply intersectionality critically to communicate about patients during the assessment, management,
and handoff processes to ensure individualized care
