Mission and Educational Objectives
Mission
The mission of the Interprofessional Education (IPE) program at LAU is to prepare health and nutrition care professionals who have the attitude, knowledge, skills and commitment required to function as effective collaborative team members in providing high quality, patient/client-centered care.
The IPE program builds on the curricula of LAU’s health and nutrition care programs and uses a student-centered educational approach. The program will partner with post-licensure professionals to foster life-long learning and creation of environments that support interprofessional health and nutrition care collaboration.
Educational Objectives
The IPE program will provide learning experiences for health and nutrition care students in classroom, simulation laboratory and clinical settings related to:
- The value of intraprofessional and interprofessional collaboration in providing high quality patient/client-centered care.
- The specific knowledge and skills that various health, nutrition and other care professionals bring to the care of patients/clients.
- Methods for promoting effective communication, collaboration, and teamwork among health, nutrition and other care professionals.
- Strategies to share and integrate evidence-based practice that draws on research and best-practice guidelines from all health, nutrition and other care fields to improve patient/client care.
- Knowledge and skills needed to develop and participate in interprofessional quality improvement activities.
- Integration of the ethical perspectives of different health, nutrition and other care professionals with the preferences of the patient/client to enhance health care outcomes and social well-being.
