Step 2

Interprofessional Communication

Step 2 is an intermediate level exposure to basic interprofessional communication techniques that foster effective interactions among members of the health care team and promote quality and safety of patient care. Similarly to Step 1, a common lecture presenting TeamSTEPPS® will be delivered. In the breakout sessions, students will use the communication tools in case-based discussions that require the input of all five health and social care professionals.

Students Learning Outcomes

  1. Distinguish the contribution of the various health and social care team members to patient/client care.
  2. Describe the influence of communication among health and social care team members on patient care outcomes.
  3. Apply communication techniques to collaborate with other health and social care professionals in identifying and addressing the needs of a patient with a chronic health condition.
